the dead tree,
the new grave,
the last gasp
of the whale,
the first sting
of the wasp,
thunder and wave,
flight,
fire,
love’s root
and ash,
the dash,
crawl,
and crash
of the world.
moon skitters and twilight
it has never rained before now
sleeping stones mazing under dew
chaulky by association
whimsical tethers lie
soft and
unharnessed flacid
by nearness and bare
privy to flight’s condemnation
awaiting creation’s dear
