It was dripping raw sarcasm — which seldom works in the virtual world and often fails in the real world. Shack (“I know houses, and you’re no house, house”) began the namecalling and I reciprocated. I should have held my tongue/fingers.

JoBParticipanthouse.. i am too tired to do battle tonight… and probably don’t care enough anyway since i know nothing i said would make sense to you even if i said it correctly.. so for tonight.. just tonight… we can agree to disagree:)
New resident… Charla is charla.. i don’t think she called me a “shack” this afternoon but i think there was more than one affectionate.. or not.. dig in there and i distinctly remember her telling me to shut up. And that was in person:)…
and wasn’t the least bit disrespectful… i may have been asking her ever so politely to stop talking so we could get on with the meeting:)
besides, i think house not so subtly called the democratic candidates… one of whom is ever so close to my heart… and by implication, those of us who take them seriously… retards… those are fighting words if i ever heard them.
You are right, we do need to be careful of name calling.. but as long as it doesn’t dive into a pit of recriminations flung back and forth across the aisle.. we are probably fine.
This fairy goodmother is taking off her wings for the night and spending some well deserved time with her hubby and dogs…
House.. your family really is too nice to keep under a bridge.. even a bridge in west seattle… so you ought to think about relocating to higher ground ;-0

I’m going to rest easy knowing that I got all of you hung up on one word and it distracted you so much that you couldn’t discuss the Democratic Beliefs.

AnonymousInactiveHouse – not hung up here. Kind of don’t care when you go into middle school mode hoping to rile someone up. I do wonder though, when so many people try to reach out to you, why this is your choice of entertainment. Most posters are just passionate and want to explain why they feel the way they do, and why they support the candidate they do. Not a lot of bashing of your political flavor. On the other hand, you continue to share how wrong everyone else is without stating what you believe or why it’s so great. The only thing I can figure is you’re really a closet lib doing a great job of showing everyone why we need to elect a democrat.

AnonymousInactiveHouse – JoB and JanS discovered they mutually have too many unused handbags and wondered what they could do with them.
WSB posted a notice that a foundation is willing to match all monetary funds donated to the White Center and West Seattle food bank during the month of march.
Job and JanS put the 2 together and thought why not sell all these bags and donate the proceeds.
In addition, the organizers have also requested non-perishable food and women’s business attire for a job interview preparedness program.

But since I’m assuming you’ve never been inside a foodbank, you have no idea what’s needed. Sorry if I offend(which I doubt), but sometimes you simply seem obtuse…damn, it’s late and I’m a tad cranky…

but if you are willing we could do in this summer for your favorite charity… only.. i honestly don’t know where to find a dunk tank. do you?
I bet we’d make a lot of money:)
I’d offer to do a turn for the republicans to dunk…but i don’t think my body is up to it.. not being a healthy strong thing any more:)

GenHillOneParticipantOh, JoB, I know where to get a dunk tank! I see a WSB booth at the street fair this summer…with an all-star line-up of dunkees from all over the community – popular WSB personalities, businesses, politicians, etc., all to benefit WS and WC food banks. A great way to spread the word about WSB and do something good. AND there isn’t anything like this at the fair now. Put it by one of the beer gardens and look out!!!

TheHouseMemberI’ll make a deal with all of you….I will fill an entire shopping cart with canned goods and donate it to the West Seattle Food Bank and I’ll get dunked in a tank if at all of the events we also have people there to advise some of the people that use the food bank to get out of their current situation (this includes career counseling, job opportunities, credit advisors, educational info, etc).
I realize that not all people that use food banks require the above, I also realize that they might require much more but in order for me to feel like I am truly helping someone I don’t believe a can of green peas with be the solution (give a man a fish he eats for a day, teach a man to fish he eats for a lifetime).

i don’t think i can arrange it for the event on sunday.. being short notice.. but i will try House.
At the very least i am sure i can get the contact info for our local social services and have that available…
I think this is a great idea House!
i too believe in teaching people how to get out of their situations.. but sometimes if you don’t feed, clothe and house them and take care of their medical needs, they don’t survive long enough to help themselves.
house.. you have shown yourself to be a great sport… and a great contributor even if you are a republican:)

AnonymousInactiveAre you guys all aware that the west seattle food bank is also home to community resources? Social services including job recruitment and help/advise for becoming self sufficient are on location. One of the food bank’s mission statements is to provide this outreach to everyone coming in for food. I think House should fill his grocery cart based on knowing his “plan” is already in place.

JanSParticipantPride goeth before the fall…I think that’s what they say. Sometimes you have to put pride in second place. I don’t necessarily mean that you have needed to go there because you need food, but because you have enough compassion for your fellow man to go volunteer(tell me you’re not totally part of the “me” generation), or at least see what it’s all about. It would probably be an eyeopener for you, at least(education is everything). It may not change your mind about things, but you’re still young. There may be some point in your life when things change and you might need those volunteers in your life.
Let’s see..pride…feed my children…hmmm….which would you pick?
